Environmental Permit

Under current legislation, Office Green holds the requisite exemptions from the requirement to have an Environmental Permit.

Whilst licensing and regulation is no doubt essential, at Office Green we believe having the right attitude and passion as we do to collect and process your waste in the greenest and most efficient way to be just as important.

Toner and inkjet cartridges exemption

Under the Environmental Permitting (England and Wales) Regulations 2007, Environment Protection Act 1990, Office Green has an exemption for:

  • The secure storage and manual sorting of waste toner (printer and ink) cartridges destined for recovery.

In extracts from The Environment Agency’s decision in granting this exemption it states “The Environment Agency considers that the activity as described above is likely to present little or no risk to the environment or human health. We take a risk based approach to regulation and we believe that it is not in the public interest for you (Office Green) to obtain an Environmental Permit in this instance”.

Furthermore, under new regulations that came in to force in April 2010 as the Environmental Permitting (England and Wales) Regulations 2010, Office Green also holds the required exemption for:

  • S2 - Storage of waste in a secure place
  • T16 - Treatment of waste toner cartridges by sorting, dismantling, cleaning or refilling

WEEE and mobile phones exemption

Again, under the Environmental Permitting (England and Wales) Regulations 2007, Environment Protection Act 1990, Office Green has a registered exemption for:

  • Secure storage of WEEE
  • Exemption reference number – NCC/E/OFF016

As with cartridges, under new regulations that came in to force in April 2010 as the Environmental Permitting (England and Wales) Regulations 2010, Office Green also holds the required exemption for:

  • S2 - Storage of waste in a secure place

Mobile phones are covered within the Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE) Directive which legislates how the disposal of electrical and electronic equipment must now follow legislation as set out in the WEEE directive.

This directive encourages everyone to reuse, recycle and recover and therefore reduce the amount of WEEE waste being produced.
